Prey Anti-Theft

People always think that stuff like robbery and so only happens to others but, that's only until it happens to them.

Since there's no guaranty that your laptop or smartphone won't be stolen someday, I recommend installing Prey anti-theft, a monitoring software that will allow to locate your stolen device entirely for free, with the help of various tools.

After installing it, it will remain undetected in the background of your device until activated by an online account which can be used to not only track it but also hide your e-mail data and delete your stored passwords so that the thief can't use them.

After your stolen device connects to the internet, you receive a list of running applications, detailed Wi-Fi and network information, it's current location with near 100% accuracy, a screenshot of the desktop and if your laptop has an integrated webcam – then a picture of the person using the computer, you can even send them a message to return your device.

The only problems is that it can't be easily uninstalled meaning that you'll need to take to a computer repair shop if you wish to erase it from your device and it changes your homepage and search provider without your approval and some benefits can only be accessed with a paid Pro account.

Other than that Prey is a good application to have on your mobile computers and phones. It enhances your chances of protecting your data and retrieving back your stolen laptop/phones. Most importantly, it is free and open source.
